Results, first day of the IIHF World Junior Championships

The first day of the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championships has been played and here are the results:

Finland 1-2 USA (shootouts)
Canada 8-0 Slovakia
Russia 3-2 Denmark (shootouts)
Sweden 5-2 Czech Republic

Analysis of the first day

Except for Denmark pressuring Russia to shootouts the first day really offered no surprises. Canada, Finland and USA is fighting for the top 3 spots in group A while Sweden and Russia will try to get the group win in group B which means they will meet either Slovakia or Germany in the quarterfinal. Some experts hold Czech Republic as a medal candidate in this tournament but then they will have to play a lot better than they did yesterday.

Day two

Tonight’s games:

Slovakia vs Finland
Germany vs Canada

Denmark vs Sweden
Czech Republic vs Switzerland

Finland, Canada and Sweden should come out as winners while those of you who wants to place some high-odds-bets should go for Switzerland. They have a fair chance beating Czech Republic as underdogs.
